JOB SUMMARY

Senior Data Governance Analyst will set the foundation of the delivery of the information with high level of customer data quality and in a timely manner. This person will also have extensive and relevant experience understanding business processes and business rules to enhance its value understanding external systems and the meaning of the information captured and its logic to facilitate the data requirements definitions for building a reporting data repository. Will own the data governance process through business term approval process, defining glossary of terms and data catalogs and owning the definition of all data elements stored in the reporting data repository.

Identifies potential data issues and address those issues to Product Owner of system where the data originates. Make data appropriate to users by ensuring completeness, validity, consistency and accuracy of the data. The Senior Data Governance Analyst is also expected to assume a leadership position in mentoring others, approving Data Management Analyst work products when appropriate, and assuming project manager responsibilities as needed.

Business Process around Data

  • Perform advanced data quality and data troubleshooting skills to identifying the root causes of data issues.

  • Lead the analysis and prioritization of critical data integration activities to improve business process and reporting for decision making to increase business value.

  • Identify and define business needs and opportunities in partnership with business and vendors.

  • Perform data and information inventory and rule definition with business and IT partners

  • Develop & ensure data integrity and validation procedures exists around all data captured

  • Own standards and processes for Data and information requirements gathering

  • Data Inventory distribution among data analysts, reporting team and business partners

  • Implement data discovery techniques utilizing business intelligence tools to explore, validate and approve data reported out of the EDW and data lake.

  • Understand, document, and influence business processes, activities, roles/responsibilities, and data within assigned areas of the business.

  • Define and manage scope of projects.

  • Perform fit gap analysis on data integration activities

  • Drive the design and when appropriate the technical definition of business solutions and ensures the solutions are designed to meet and achieve the performance, reliability and total cost goals of the company.

  • Manage data integration and reporting data repository projects roadmaps to support business and technical strategies. Share roadmaps with Data & Analytics leaders, Information Technology leaders and business partners.

  • Manage relationship with 3rd party vendors to facilitate the integration of external data and to understand business logic behind that external data

  • Develop and maintain operational standards to support the software development life cycle. 40%

Solutions and Technology

  • Owner of the maintenance efforts for existing data in the data lake during changes of business processes. Manage relationships with stakeholders, owning and managing the product backlog, developing product roadmap and release plans.

  • Define the data solutions to business problems jointly with business partners and development teams.

  • Analyze and document root cause of defects or production issues and manages the resolution and implementation of the issue.

  • Develop and own functional requirements for data integration and reporting data repository solutions.

  • Employ value metrics and analysis to properly prioritize and ensure timely delivery of solutions as the business requires.

  • Provide application analytical support for projects, support tasks and enhancements.

  • Oversee and perform functional and regression quality assurance testing during data validation against source system data

  • Act as translator between business and technical community interpreting data domain needs and translating into more technical quality assessment rules for developers (and vice-versa).

  • Coordinate data integration testing and performance testing as needed. 20%

Data Governance

  • Perform duties of data governance such as:

o Business terms approval process following ownership structure

o Define deadlines for the approval process

o Own glossary of terms for data elements stores in the reporting data repository

o Maintain data dictionary

o Prioritization and selection of business terms

o Integrate business terms and critical data elements to relevant reports

o Enable Validation of business rules through approval process

o Help in the data quality process by pulling out data quality outputs

o Enable data issue tracking, escalation and distribution notification process

o Ensure data lineage and traceability for the data elements is included 20%

Leadership

  • Train and mentor the data and business analysts on duties, skill sets, and professional conduct.

  • Cultivate working relationships at all levels of the organization, including the Senior Vice President level.

  • Stay informed on projects, releases, and events that may impact data collection processes, data quality and reporting.

  • Ensure transparency of action and status with stakeholders.

  • Resolve issues at the lowest possible level and escalates when appropriate to BI and Information Management Manager.

  • Manage large efforts, including project planning, coordination between teams and status reporting.

  • Evaluate the work products of the data quality analyst and development team for accuracy and completeness.

  • Keep Data and Analytics leadership informed and up to date on status, events and other critical information. 20%

Reports to Director, Data Architecture and Governance. Interacts with all management levels of the organization and stakeholders. Interacts with third party vendors. Has frequent communication with other Business Analysts including Associate Analysts.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated expertise at business process and data analysis.

  • Expert knowledge of data governance procedures and tools.

  • Expert knowledge of sound software development lifecycle methodology.

  • Data quality skills

  • Knowledge of databases, included big data technologies

  • Process flow development, analysis, and reengineering skills.

  • Ability to convey complex concepts to business stakeholders in terms relevant to the business

  • Ability to use reporting tools to implement data quality reporting validations and to discover anomalies in the data.

  • Strong writing skills.

  • Expertise with Microsoft Office suite of products, including Visio and data governance tools

  • Excellent problem solving and logical analysis skills.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to adapt message to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • SQL query skills.

  • Must demonstrate self-initiative, a sense of urgency and innovation/creativity.

  • Capable of working and thriving in a fast-paced, integrated team environment.

Minimum Educational Level/Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree.

Minimum Work Experience and Qualifications

  • 5+ years relevant experience in as an analyst for applications development, systems engineering and/or process engineering

  • 5+ years of active practical experience in information management roles

  • 5+ year of data quality experience

  • 3+ years defining and publishing data dictionaries and documenting data lineage.

  • 3+ years of Business Intelligence implementations with Dimensional Data Models, integrating data from various

  • 5+ years providing analytical reporting to business users using various reporting tools.
